The Infamous First Lady

The Rose Hall Great House is known as Jamaica’s greatest Great House and contains an engaging story. The Great House was constructed in the 1770’s by John Palmer and his wife. Later, their grandnephew John Rose Palmer, took up residence at the Great House and in 1820 married a beautiful yet feisty woman named Annee.

John had no knowledge that his new bride practiced “Black Magic” which in the end led to his death. As Annee reigned as mistress over the planation, she got rid of two more husbands and numerous lovers. The story of “The White Witch of Rose Hall” captures the interest and imagination of generations. There are even those persons who have claimed to have witness Annee going through the Great House. For many visitors a candle-lit evening tour is a must at the Great House.

A Restaurant In Rose Hall

You can’t end this supernatural experience without a visit to the dungeon. It has been transformed into a pub known as Annee’s Pub. There is a tale around the famous “Witches Brew.” It is a rum cocktail which is said to help banish ghosts or Black magic still lingering in the Great House.
