History of Rick’s Café

Rick’s Café was established by Richard Hershman in April 1974. As a result of his creative and innovative idea, the sleepy fishing village was converted into one of Jamaica’s most famous hot spots. The cliff side was previously owned by a local doctor, son of first Governor General of newly independent Jamaica. Rick’s Café contributed and enhanced the tourism product of Negril and its majestic seven miles beaches. However, in 1988, its beauty was tarnished as Hurricane Gilbert wrecked its infrastructure. Later destruction followed in 2004 when Hurricane Ivan hit the island.
