Descriptions

Located near the border of St James and Trelawny is the infamous Greenwood Great House. The Greenwood Great House was built during an era of elegance and brutality by Richard Barrett in the 1700s.Richard Barrett was the cousin of poet Elizabeth Barrett-Browning, whose family was among Jamaica’s original colonial settlers.

Sitting sleek on its lush green manicured lawn and garden, the Greenwood Great house has preserved its beauty and elegance even today. On arrival you will be greeted by the guide who will take you along the walkway that is overlooked by lush green vegetation.

Let’s take a journey through the past as you walk through the hallways of this ancient historic building as you see and learn about the various pieces from various time periods. This is an interesting tour as you will see and hear the stories of a part of Jamaica’s colonial history.

Its rich history and legacy is still preserved today as the Great House now functions as a museum where one can view the original library of the Barrett family with over 200 books. On this 2-hour tour, you will learn about the historical building and also life on the sugar plantation while observing the collection.
