You will on occasions come upon refreshing waterfalls and tiny restaurants throughout your tour.
The Hike
The commencement of the tour is at the Whitfield Hall Lodge, an elevation of 4,000ft, then a hike to the 7,400ft peak. Signs are erected which make the trail easy to follow. Each person will have their own story to tell as some areas along the path are level, whereas the challenging areas are rocky with gravel.
Varying levels of hiking trails exists. The trails that are short are appropriate for individuals who would rather a nice easy stroll among the beautiful vegetation. The longer trails are more suitable for individuals who like to be challenged physically. Night hike is also available. You don’t have to worry; there are no dangerous wild animals in Jamaica. It is cooler and quiet at nights but the paths are not visible as it is dark and the use of flashlight is required. Even with this, the scene is very tranquil. With determination you can make it to the peak of the mountain in time to witness a magnificent sunrise. When you have reached the peak you will realize that the journey was worth taking.
Things to Consider for a Hiking Tour
The Blue Mountain Peak Hiking tour is not suitable for everyone. You will have to be prepared to walk for about 3 to 4 hours up the trail in order to reach peak and then make the trip back down. Wear shoes and long sleeved clothing suitable for hiking. Bring water and other preferred rehydration fluids. Also bring adequate snacks for the tours. Some hikes may last for hours. Check in with your guide to make sure you have everything you need for the hike.
It is suggested that less experienced hikers be accompanied by a tour guide or join a group tour. If you want to see the sunrise it is strongly suggested that you hike from Mavis Bank the evening before and stay overnight at one of the lodges. From there you can rise early the next morning and hike to the desired viewing spot.
Other Recreational Activities
Great food with a beautiful setting is what you will find at the Blue Mountain Inn. The relic of a 17th century custom still maintained at the inn; for ladies is a sitting room with coffee liqueur and for the gentlemen, their own cozy cigar room.
The inn also offers biking tours which begins at an elevation 6,000ft and winds down through the Blue Mountain stretching approximately 17 miles. The tours end at a waterfall where you can take a dip to cool off and relax.
